The Nomination Period for the Lancaster ISD Gifted and Talented Program is Now Open!

Hooray! It’s that time of year again! Lancaster Independent School District will accept nominations for first through twelfth grade students from November 7, 2016 through December 9, 2016 for the gifted and talented program. A teacher, previous teacher, counselor, parent, administrator, or community person may nominate students. Students may also self-nominate. If a student has been previously identified as gifted, the child does not need to be re-assessed.

Beginning November 7, 2016, nomination materials may be picked up by parents or students in the counselor’s office of the student’s assigned school. The nomination form should be returned to the counselor’s office no later than December 9, 2016.

Students who are nominated will be contacted for assessment. A parent permission form is required for students to be assessed. Following the assessment, the Admit, Review, Exit committee will identify students for whom the Gifted and Talented Program is an appropriate placement. Placement letters will be mailed in or before April of 2017. Newly identified gifted and talented students will begin receiving gifted and talented services in the 2016-2017 school year.

Please feel free to contact individual campus counselors or the Exploration Academy at 972-218-1590 if you need additional information.

1993 Federal Definition of Talent
Children and youth with outstanding talent perform or show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. These children and youth exhibit high performance capacity in intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas, and unusual leadership capacity, or excel in specific academic fields. They require services or activities not ordinarily provided by the schools. Outstanding talents are present in children and youth from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.

Note: Students who have been serviced in a Gifted and Talented Program in a previous school district should contact the campus registrar to learn how to transfer records.
